Ronald McDonald House Charities Service Project

Image
On November 16th, we spent the midday working at the Ronald McDonald house. First, the volunteer coordinator told us a very interesting and informative background on the Ronald McDonald House, then gave us a quick tour of the building's dining room, living room, and family room, among other rooms. After this tour, we set to work raking the numerous leaves in the parking lot. It was a great Autumn service project, and it may become a future place to serve at for the Honor Society.

On Friday, November 8th, we hosted Mr. Larry Johnson, former Vietnam veteran, to tell us some reflections about his time fighting for our country. It was extremely informative and interesting to hear the viewpoints on the war through the eyes of someone who fought in it. He spoke about the effects of the government taking over more authority in this war, and also told some moving and humorous stories about his war-time adventures as he flew helicopters. It was a great discussion to hear just in time for Veteran's day.

West End Service Project

On November 1st, we served at the West End center, playing with the children there. The West End center is an after-school child-care program that provides tutoring and a supervised, safe space to hang out. Because it was Friday, there was no tutoring, and we had fun playing tag, basketball, and jump rope with the little ones there.
